AREEA is pleased to announce the appointment of workplace relations consultant Liana D’Ascanio.
Liana has over 10 years’ experience in the resources sector, specialising in legal and workplace relations.
“In the current business environment, a strategic approach to workplace matters is required and I am looking forward to applying the knowledge that I’ve gained from my industry and legal experience in supporting AREEA’s membership in continuing to adapt and transform,” Liana said.
An experienced workplace relations practitioner, Liana will assist and advise AREEA members on the full range of workplace relations issues, including establishing sustainable and optimal arrangements for employment, responding to threats to continuity of work, managing employee performance, and diversity matters.
Liana brings a depth of experience applying her legal skills in the resources industry, including previously held positions as General Manager Employee Relations and Legal Counsel at large maritime services provider, Programmed Marine.
Liana was also a Senior Associate at major law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth Lawyers, providing workplace relations advice to a range of clients in the resources sector and other areas of industry.
Head of the West Coast Operations David Parker said Liana is a welcome addition to the West Coast operations, who will provide Workplace Relations advice and guidance, with the backing of a sound understanding of the environment in which AREEA members operate, including the commercial and legal framework.
“Liana further complements our experienced team of consultants, with good coverage of all sectors of the industry, across the range of workplace relations issues relevant to resources employers,” he said.
“Together, we have a combination of operational, technical, legal and corporate experience that enables us to provide the sort of sophisticated workplace relations support companies are looking for in increasingly challenging markets.”
Mr Parker, a well-respected employment lawyer, who joined AREEA earlier this year, said the WA team is nationally integrated and industry-focussed.
AREEA’s Perth-based team presents a unique package of HR and IR knowledge and expertise in the resources sector, from mining to maritime, exploration to extraction, construction to operations, and strategic planning to practical implementation.
“Our upcoming AREEA 2017 Resource Industry Employer Forum and workshops will be an excellent opportunity for members to connect with our team and workshop key issues,” Mr Parker said.
“The event will very much be focussed on solutions to the challenges our members are telling us are important in the workforce.”
