In this AFR column Matthew Stevens canvasses moves by the Maritime Union of Australia to add four key categories to the waterside workers so it can formally represent have far more tactical and short-term ambitions than have been assessed by the industrial relations club. AREEA is mentioned as a lead industrial relations lobby group raising “concerns about the MUA’s attempt to extend its reach to these shipping critical roles, characterising them as a power grab ahead of the waterfront merger with the CFMEU”.
