AREEA chief executive Steve Knott welcomes today’s appointment of highly regarded workplace relations practitioner Lyndall Dean as a Deputy President of the Fair Work Commission (FWC).
“Lyndall Dean is a highly respected workplace relations practitioner who brings strong industry experience to the role,” Mr Knott says.
“Her appointment to the Presidential level of the commission ticks all the boxes. She brings both legal and business expertise while also helping improve the gender balance of the tribunal.
“AREEA recently called for more women to be appointed to the FWC, particularly in senior roles where just 29% of current members are female. Given women constitute 46% of Australia’s two million-strong workforce, improving the tribunal’s gender balance is clearly a work-in-progress.
“Ms Dean brings to the Commission more than a decade managing human resources and workplace relations strategy for a very large and complex energy corporation. This will help address longstanding concerns at the paucity of tribunal members with practical business experience.
“We wish Ms Dean all the best in her new career and look forward to the Turnbull Government making further appointments to continue to diversify and balance the composition of our national employment tribunal.”
