The federal government has been urged to broaden any inquiry into Fair Work Commission president Iain Ross’s intervention in the Victorian firefighter dispute to examine politicisation of the industrial umpire and the rise of “tribunal activism’’.
…Australian Mines and Metals Association chief executive Steve Knott, a prominent FWC critic, said controversy attracted by Mr Ross since his appointment four years ago had left stakeholders of Australia’s industrial relations system “bewildered and confused’’ about the impartiality of the commission.
