Media statement by AREEA Chief Executive, Steve Knott:
AREEA Executive Director, Industry, Minna Knight has been appointed to the role of Commissioner with the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC).
On behalf of AREEA, our Board of Directors and our members, I congratulate Minna on her appointment to this role. Over the last four years, Minna has been an outstanding contributor to AREEA’s leadership team, AREEA’s membership and the Australian resource industry in general.
Having joined AREEA in 2008, Minna has been integral to increasing and diversifying AREEA’s services and representative activities.
Drawing on her breadth of advisory experience across workplace relations, policy, media and government relations, she has been an outstanding representative and advocate for AREEA’s members across the national resource, related construction and allied industries.
On a broader industry basis, Minna’s positive reach of influence has extended far beyond the resources sector through her representative duties on the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).
During her tenure at AREEA, Minna has presided over significant membership and revenue growth, improved industry representation and bolstered the range of services offered to AREEA members.
In recent years she has had a key role in establishing a number of AREEA’s new industry services including online career centre AREEA miningoilandgasjobs.com, AREEA SkillsConnect and the Australian Women in Resources Alliance (AWRA).
Such workforce development initiatives have facilitated more Australian people obtaining access to employment in Australia’s resource industry. This has been particularly important at a time when the sector is experiencing labour and skills challenges driven by exceptional growth.
Prior to joining AREEA, Minna held a number of workplace relations, policy and communications roles across the resources, construction, manufacturing, and hospitality sectors. Her impressive business, government relations, public affairs and industrial relations attributes make her well suited to this role with the QIRC.
On behalf of AREEA, I both thank Minna for her contribution at AREEA and wish her all the very best in her new role.
