AS MENTAL health awareness becomes an increasingly important focus for the resource industry, the Australian Mines and Metals Association (AREEA) is actively promoting beyondblue’s Heads Up campaign to its members across the mining, oil and gas, and allied service sectors.
The Heads Up initiative aims to get all Australian employers on board with making mental well-being a top priority in their workplaces and provides a suite of toolkits and strategies, including:
- Top tips to promote mental health in the workplace
- A tailored Heads Up action plan designed especially for individual resource sites
- Information about best practice strategies in the industry
- Guides for employees to recognise and support others suffering mental health challenges
- Training and educational opportunities to raise awareness about mental well-being
As the resource industry’s employer group, AREEA is assisting beyondblue to roll-out Heads Up to its national membership, with particular focus on remote sites where increased support for fly-in, fly-out employees has become a priority for the industry in recent years.
Beyondblue chairman Jeff Kennett and AREEA chief executive Steve Knott recently filmed a short video (see below) to explore mental health challenges in the resource industry and discuss the Heads Up initiative.
