Hundreds of enthusiastic Perth and Central Queensland students this month learned more about the diverse and rewarding career opportunities in the resources and energy sector through AREEA’s Bright Future STEM program.
In Perth, the program brought to life the joys of studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) to students at Phoenix, Beenyup and Marri Grove Primary Schools, showcasing the resources and energy industry’s diverse range of career pathways and future jobs.
AREEA thanks members Thiess and Gold Fields for providing talented role models from their teams to share their career pathway and why they love working in the sector.
AREEA Director Operations Tara Diamond said female industry role models played a particularly critical role in the program by breaking down gender stereotypes and inspiring young girls to follow a passion for STEM.
“In Western Australia the resources and energy industry is a key contributor to jobs and the economy – it was great to build further awareness and understanding of the sector, and highlight the rewarding careers unlocked by studying STEM,” she said.

The program continued on to Queensland last week, with students in Moranbah and Dysart given a range of insights into STEM and how the study of these subjects relates to real-world jobs in the resources and energy industries.
AREEA thanks members Thiess and Anglo American for providing inspirational role models who shared their own career journey and why they love working in the sector.
This AREEA initiative specifically engages 9 to 12-year-old children, encouraging an interest in STEM careers and giving an insight into future STEM employment in the sector.
