THE Northern Territory Government will soon establish a Parliamentary Committee to review issues related to the state’s future energy supply.
Energy demand, capability and continuity of supply will be reviewed by the Sessional Committee on the Northern Territory’s Energy Future in an effort to recognise issues threatening economic growth.
“We cannot invite new trading partners to invest here when we cannot properly accommodate their future energy needs,” chief minister Adam Giles said in a statement released last week.
“The most immediate priority for the committee will be to assess the opportunities and issues connected with the Territory’s onshore energy resources.”
In particular, the committee will focus on the Territory’s current and probable energy capabilities, alternative energy resource options, prospective energy demands, emerging technologies and cost effectiveness of energy supply.
