Dr Belinda Cham, Research Fellow at Curtin University’s Future of Work Institute, has spent a decade researching human performance in complex, high-reliability systems, including defence environments where people and technology must perform reliably under pressure. She challenges the assumption that new technology automatically delivers productivity gains – framing AI as not just a new software tool, but a whole-of-system change.

Dr Cham examines how AI is reshaping work, expertise, and risk, and uses sociotechnical design principles to offer practical guidance for turning that change into a long-term capability advantage.
