Understanding New
Workplace Delegates’ Rights

AREEA is pleased to present an important new training package for members on workplace delegates’ rights.

It’s imperative to get all leaders across these new laws efficiently.

That’s why the training has been developed in two streams.

One version is for site-based leaders (supervisors and managers), with the second tailored for head office leaders.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

From 1 July 2024 new laws were introduced that change the rights and protections of workplace delegates.

A workplace delegate is a person appointed by a union to be a representative for union members working in a workplace. They have the right to represent the industrial interests of members and potential members.

These new laws introduce key changes for the awareness of all supervisors, managers and leaders. They include:

  • Right of representation;
  • Entitlement to reasonable communication;
  • Reasonable access to the workplace and workplace facilities; and
  • Reasonable access to training.

.
Ensure all your people leaders and professionals are up to date and able to manage the rights of workplace delegates in this expanded area of Australian employment law.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On completion of this course participants will:

  • Understand new rights, protections and obligations under the Closing Loopholes amendments to delegates’ rights;
  • Understand employers’ rights, protections and obligations;
  • Know the guidelines for workplace delegates’ expanded right of representation, reasonable communication, access to facilities and training; and
  • Understand practical considerations specific to Australia’s resources and energy industry workforces and workplaces.
