The Australian Resources and Energy Employer Association (AREEA) is pleased to announce the appointment of its new president, Julie Fallon, Executive Vice President Technical and Energy Development at Woodside Energy.

Ms Fallon, formerly AREEA Vice President, succeeds Tom Quinn who has served AREEA and its Board with distinction across four years as president.

Mr Quinn will remain on the Board as Vice President, alongside Compass Group Australia managing director Joanne Taylor.

Ms Fallon paid tribute to Mr Quinn’s leadership during a challenging period for the resources and energy industry.

“Volatile market conditions, regulatory changes and rising costs of doing business have required strong leadership and a strategic response on AREEA’s part,” Ms Fallon said.

“Tom has delivered this leadership and clarity. His wealth of industry knowledge and steady hand have provided the direction to continue securing positive outcomes for members.”

Ms Fallon joined Woodside’s Executive Leadership Team in 2022 and oversees project development, reserves and subsurface, wells and seismic, engineering and technology, digital, IT and cybersecurity and health, safety and environment.

She has more than 30 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry and has previously served as Woodside senior vice president in several areas: Pluto Business Unit, Engineering, Internal Audit and Corporate and Legal. In her immediate past role, she was Executive Vice President Corporate Services.

AREEA Chief Executive Steve Knott AM said Ms Fallon was an outstanding choice to steer the national employer group’s Board of Directors.

“Starting out as an engineer with Shell Australia, Julie worked in a range of production and engineering roles that included several years living in Karratha,” Mr Knott said.

“This grounding was fundamental to the practical expertise she has gone on to deliver as a global energy company leader in operational, technical, corporate and compliance.

“While her experience in LNG operations is profound, Julie’s wide-ranging understanding of the resources and energy industry will be invaluable at a time when AREEA’s influence on workplace relations and skills development is critical.”
