The Morrison Government has committed $39.8 million for projects under the Women’s Leadership and Development Program. This funding forms part of its commitment under the Women@Work measure announced in the 2020 Women’s Economic Security Statement to support the re-opening, recovery and reform of Australia’s economy.
Across Australia, 60 organisations will receive funding to deliver a range of projects over 2020-21 to 2023-24 that will improve outcomes for Australian women across five key areas for this round: job creation; economic security; workforce participation; leadership; and safety. The level of interest in the round was significant and we welcome the work of so many diverse organisations supporting Australian women.
These include organisations providing a wide range of services from supporting teen parents and women experiencing the impacts of family and domestic violence, to those that provide opportunities for older women to re-skill or re-train. The Morrison Government understands these projects are critical to the creation of women’s leadership and development opportunities across Australia.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Women, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, said the projects have a focus on boosting women’s employment opportunities and supporting women’s safety.
“These projects are estimated to benefit around 40,000 Australian women nation-wide, including women from diverse backgrounds and those at high risk of long-term unemployment”, Minister Payne said.
“Opportunities will be created for women to up-skill and enter traditionally male dominated industries including non-traditional trades, aviation, construction and coding as well as progress to leadership positions.”

The Women’s Leadership and Development Program was further expanded in the 2021-22 Budget by $38.3 million to continue to fund innovative projects that will improve outcomes for women.
