In 2018, the Australian Resources and Energy Group AREEA coordinated an industry leadership advisory board on mental health known as the Resources and Energy Industry Mental Health Advisory Board.
The Advisory Board is purposefully comprised of members across various functions and levels of leadership to provide a broad representation of the skills, experiences, and insights regarding workplace mental health in the resources and energy industry.
The role of the Advisory Board is to determine the industry’s policy positions and establish industry wide initiatives which focus on the efforts of resources and energy employers in supporting mental health.
The Advisory Board develops programs and initiatives which engage, influence and support resources and energy industry employers to improve the mental health and wellbeing of our people and communities.
With the importance of workforce mental health and wellness being highlighted more than ever, the various workforce mental health initiatives across the resources and energy industry greatly benefit the productivity, quality, and safety dividends of our organisations.
The Advisory Board’s vision is to assist resources and energy employers and the industry to promote mentally healthy workplaces and to reduce the stigma of mental health in the industry and Australian community.
The Mental Health Advisory Board’s objectives include:
- Providing information on relevant updates within their organisations and in the industry;
- Assisting in program development;
- Assisting in setting priorities for the MHAB, including participating in ongoing planning activities;
- Advocating for the MHAB in public; and
- Facilitating cooperation and communication between MHAB and their employer.
