Chief Executive

Steve Knott was appointed as Australian Resources and Energy Employer Association ( AREEA ) Chief Executive in 1997.

On behalf of AREEA’s members Steve represents Industry workplace advocacy to government, opposition and other relevant stakeholders at both the state and federal government level.

Steve also leads AREEA’s extensive array of employment consulting services including workplace relations and human resources management.

These services are provided on a national basis to AREEA’s extensive member network of mining, oil and gas and service related companies, from large blue chip corporations to small businesses.

Steve is well known for his advocacy on employment legislative that facilitates employers and employees entering into productive enterprise-based working arrangements.

Prior to promotion to the Chief Executive role, he served two years as AREEA’s West Australian Manager and one year as Tasmanian AREEA Manager.

Before joining AREEA, Steve served 10 years in senior management positions with the Hydro Electric Commission Tasmania, including the roles of Industrial Relations and Human Resources Manager.

Steve previously served as a member of the National Workplace Relations Consultative Council, the International Labour Advisory Committee, and was on the ACCI board from 2015-2023.

He holds a post graduate diploma in business administration from Monash University and has professional memberships with the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and the Industrial Relations Society of Victoria.

In 2017, Steve was appointed a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) for “significant service to the resources and energy industries, to the advancement of women, and to industrial relations”.
